Machong is located in the core zone of an-Pearl River Delta and has developed system of traffic by sea, land and air. Ports, railways and expressways are all in place in Machong, which run through the golden industrial zone of the whole pan-Pearl River Delta, connect consumer markets with a population of 450 million and radiating the whole Chinese market with a population of 1.4 billion.
Port: Xinsha Port is the largest inland port in South China with annual throughput of 40 million tons. 10 berths with 50,000 to 100,000 tonners have been built up. It is connected with Machong Port Area of Humen Port under planning and construction. An international big port with 24 deepwater berths and annual throughput of over 100 million tons will take shape.
Highway: The existing Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway and the riverside expressway that is to open to traffic in 2007 have three exits and entrances in Machong in total and connect with ports and industrial parks in the town through perfect highway network in the town. Dongguan-Machong Express Trunk Line whose construction is about to start will integrate the optimized traffic network of Machong and the downtown of Dongguan. In 2004, high grade highways including Xinsha Road, Gangzhong Road and Wenwuchong Road were newly built up. The highway network in the town has been further improved.
Railway: The special railway of Xinsha Port is connected with Guangzhou Xiayuan Station and leads to all parts of the country.
Light rail: The inter-city light rail of Pearl River Delta under planning will make Machong more closely connected with the city groups of pan-Pearl River Delta.
Airport: Machong is located in the center of the area formed by Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macao, Shenzhen and Zhuhai international airports. It takes 45 minutes ride to get to Guangzhou and Shenzhen airports and 90 minutes’ ride to get to Hong Kong and Macao airports.
